What is Chelation and Chelation Therapy?
July 22, 2009
We can define chelation as the process in which we make use of chemical substances in order to discard molecules which are basically metals and minerals from our body. The process of chelation does the work of holding tightly the above metal and mineral molecules together so that they can be easily excreted from our body. Thus we can say that chelation process does the job of removing harmful metals and a mineral from our body prior to any harm is done to our body. It is mainly used in cases involving consumption of poison. Chelation is also used in cases involving angina, gangrene, coronary artery ailment and circulatory disorder.

However, its main use is for the treatment of heart diseases wherein we use chelation therapy. The main cause of heart diseases is high level of cholesterol. It leads to formation of calcified plaque in the inner atherosclerosis or arteries. The chelation therapy is basically of two types. We can make use of the chelation therapy by directly introducing it into the human body through ingestion of the formulas which are dissolved in some liquid or eating it in the form of a tablet or a gel capsule or by making use of intravenous application. Out of these two the oral chelation therapy is widely used as no person wishes to spend a large amount of cash by visiting a doctor when the same thing can be done by a normal capsule which is readily available at a chemist.
